BANGKOK, July 7 (UPI) -- Thai officials said Thursday they will buy Russian fighters, including air superiority and air-to-surface jets.
Sorayut Prompo, Thailand's ambassador to Russia, made the disclosure during a trip to Siberia, the Russian news agency Novosti reported.
"Thailand and Russia are currently holding consultations on a possible purchase of Russian Su-30MK fighters," he said. "Thailand intends to purchase a large number of fighters for the Thai armed forces."
Prompo toured the Irkut aircraft factory, which makes the Su-30MK, a two-seater designed for air-to-air and air-to-surface attacks.
