Singapore, India fast-track economic pact

SINGAPORE, April 25 (UPI) -- Singapore and India will work towards concluding the Closer Economic Cooperation Agreement (Ceca) within a month, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The agreement, a comprehensive and significant economic accord along the lines of an enlarged free trade agreement, is expected to cover investment, trade and taxation.

"There are one or two issues left outstanding, not yet resolved, but I discussed these with Manmohan Singh and we did not see any reason why we should allow these issues to hold matters up," Lee said, according to Business Times Monday.

The Singapore leader, with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh and leaders of other nations, was in Bandung in Indonesia to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the first Asia-Africa Summit of 1955.
