WASHINGTON, March 17 (UPI) -- The National Association of Manufacturers welcomed Thursday the nomination of Rob Portman as U.S. Trade Representative.
The Republican Congressman from Ohio was nominated as President Bush's pick to replace Robert Zoellick, who left the post to become deputy state secretary.

Portman "hails from a great manufacturing state and he knows what it takes to compete in the world," said NAM President John Engler, adding he hopes the Senate would confirm his nomination quickly.
NAM represents some of the biggest manufacturers in the United States.
