LONDON, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- American Express and Citigroup have barred British Internet gamblers from using their credit cards for online casinos.
Others are expected to follow suit, the Times of London says.
The action was taken to protect other customers from debt, fraud and money laundering, the companies said.
American Express and Citigroup said they had no plans to alter their policy despite the government's new gambling bill, which will regulate online gambling in Britain.
Officials told The Times credit card transactions with British online gambling companies would be safe once they had been brought under the scrutiny of the Gambling Commission.
