Singapore businesses to visit Iran

SINGAPORE, March 31 (UPI) -- Singapore's Trade and Industry Minister George Yeo announced Wednesday he will visit Iran in the first high-level business mission to the country in years.

The trip, scheduled for Friday, is part of a push to get Singapore firms to seek opportunities in the Middle East, Channel News Asia reported Wednesday.

Twenty-nine companies plan to take part, including real estate and infrastructure firms like CDL and Hyflux, oil and gas firms like SembCorp and SPC, and food specialists Food Empire and Singapore Food Industries.

The companies hope to help introduce new products and technologies into Iran.

Singapore-based B.B.S Networks and Iran's Dadeh Gostar are to ink a contract for a broadband data network project.

Also, the Singapore Business Federation will sign a memorandum of understanding with its Iranian counterpart.

Yeo will also visit the United Arab Emirates.
