WASHINGTON, March 11 (UPI) -- The majority of Americans say the issue of job exportation will play a very important role when they decide for whom to vote in November.
A poll released Wednesday by the Gallup Organization showed 58 percent of those surveyed said the issue of keeping American jobs from going overseas would be very important when they decide on whom to support, while 27 percent said it would be fairly important. Fourteen percent of respondents said it was either not too important or not important at all.
Democratic presidential front-runner Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., has made job exportation a major issue in his candidacy, vowing to punish and "Benedict Arnold CEOs" who send jobs overseas to cheaper labor markets. President Bush, meanwhile, says an isolationist stance would only hurt the United States and its workers.
The poll's findings were based on telephone interviews conducted March 5-7 with 1,005 U.S. adults. The survey has a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
