Air traffic controllers strike in Paris

PARIS, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Air traffic controllers went on strike Monday at the Orly airport south of Paris, protesting a possible forced move to Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Controllers fear that a reorganization would force most of them to work at the Charles de Gaulle airport, which is about 25 miles north of Paris, greatly increasing their commute.

The five-day strike, scheduled to last until Friday, forced the cancellation of about 60 percent of Monday's flights, according to airport sources.

Most travelers reportedly stayed away from Orly after being warned about the strike.

Charles de Gaulle, France's largest airport, was not affected by the strike.

Orly, France's second-largest airport, mostly serves domestic and European destinations.
