Attorney: Lay to address Enron scandal

HOUSTON, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Former Enron Chairman Ken Lay will publicly address the company's scandal within a few weeks, according to his Houston attorney.

Attorney Mike Ramsey told a news conference Thursday Lay will be "talking soon," the Houston Chronicle reported. He said his client is "restless" and wants to address the matter in a more public forum than he has before.

Lay wants to express "the sense of betrayal that he feels relative" to the plea bargain that former Enron Chief Financial Officer Andrew Fastow accepted Wednesday.

Fastow, the highest ranking former Enron official charged so far in the case, pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit securities and wire fraud and agreed to cooperate with the ongoing Enron investigation.

Ramsey said again he doesn't think any charges will be filed against Lay.

Lay may begin his public discussion with a "white paper," or a newspaper opinion piece, his attorney told reporters.
