FDA approves Lilly sepsis drug

WASHINGTON, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- U.S. drug officials on Wednesday approved Eli Lilly and Co.'s sepsis drug, Xigris. Sepsis, which killes about 30 percent of the 750,000 Americans who develop the condition, occurs when the body's immune system overreacts to an infection, causing blood clots that can lead to organ failure and death.
