Blues claim Martins off waivers

ST. LOUIS, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Steve Martins had his second tour of duty with the Ottawa Senators come to an end Wednesday when the St. Louis Blues claimed the center off waivers.

Signed by Ottawa as a free agent in August 2001, the 30-year-old Martins had three goals and three assists in 28 games with the Senators over the past two seasons. He also played for Ottawa from 1998-2000, collecting five goals and three assists in 38 contests before being claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay.

Martins split time with the Senators and their American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton this season, recording two goals and three assists in 14 games with Ottawa and 16 points in 26 games in the minors.

Selected by the Hartford Whalers in the 1994 supplemental draft, the 5-9 Harvard product has 16 goals and 21 assists in 210 NHL games, including 39 with the New York Islanders in 2000-01.
