BTS is the first K-pop group to appear on the Billboard Hot 100. South Korean singer Psy previously reached No. 2 on the chart with "Gangnam Style" in 2012.

BTS member Suga had voiced hopes in February of appearing on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time.

"Our goal for this year is to enter Billboard's Hot 100 chart, and personally, I want to collaborate with other artists or release my own music," the 25-year-old singer said.

BTS also topped the Billboard 200 chart for the week of June 2 with its album Love Yourself: Tear. The album, which debuted May 18, includes "Fake Love" and 10 other tracks, including a new collaboration with Steve Aoki.
