MIAMI, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Kanye West won three awards at the Source Hip-Hop Awards ceremony in Miami, the most by any single artist.
The Chicago producer-performer took Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for two-million seller "College Dropout," and Video of the Year for "Through the Wire" about his near-death car crash.
But, like many other big hip-hop stars, West wasn't at the Sunday event to accept the awards, which were handed out less than two months after the MTV Video Music Awards. Outcast, Jay-Z, P. Daddy and Usher were also missing.
The Source Awards, taped for broadcast Nov. 30 on BET, were held at the James L. Knight Center. And the event did not win rave reviews.
Flight attendants dragged their suitcases past fans waiting outside the hotel to see stars, the show ran two hours late and the press room was filled with more fawning fans than reporters.
