LONDON, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- British authorities have erected an electric fence around part of Buckingham Palace to deter intruders, the Telegraph reported Saturday.
The security upgrade follows an embarrassing intrusion by a Fathers for Justice campaigner who was dressed as Batman during the globally televised episode.
After Jason Hatch gained access to the palace, he climbed onto the front of the building where he stood for several hours.
The fence was installed at the northern side of the palace, blocking access to a low parapet and roof, to which Hatch gained access last month.
In addition to the fence, more officers are patrolling the palace.
Ken Wharfe, a former royal protection officer, said the fence and increased number of officers represented a visible deterrent to dissuade terrorists and others from following the protester's example.
Anyone failing to take the hint could well be shot, said John Stevens, Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
