SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Apple Computer's CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs told his employees Sunday he has been successfully operated on for a treatable form of pancreatic cancer.
Jobs sent the message from a laptop computer on his hospital bed that he underwent "successful surgery" to remove a tumor that is a rare variety, not the more common incurable and often fatal form of pancreatic cancer.
The San Jose Mercury newspaper reported that he said he would not require chemotherapy or radiation and that he would return to work in September.
Jobs said he asked Tim Cook. executive vice president of worldwide sales and operations, to lead the company while he is recuperating.
