Jail guard charged with murder-for-hire

BOSTON, May 11 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts jail guard has been charged with arranging the murder of his son's mother so he could stop paying child support.

A federal grand jury in Boston indicted Robert Ramos of South Dartmouth, charging him with traveling interstate and using interstate communications to commit murder.

U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan alleges Ramos approached a woman identified only as a "cooperating witness" and discussed killing his former lover. He allegedly told her carrying out the murder while his son was in the house would be okay, but the killing should be done the day before he was scheduled to pick up the boy.

Ramos has been in custody since his arrest in December. He had been employed as a corrections officer for the Bristol County, Mass., Sheriff's Office.
