Athens plumbing may not hold for Olympics

ATHENS, Greece, April 26 (UPI) -- While some worry athletic venues won't be ready for the Athens Summer Olympics, others worry Greece's plumbing won't tolerate toilet paper.

It's a little known fact outside of the country that Greek plumbing does not accommodate toilet paper, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday.

Some warnings have been posted, such as one restaurant that posted a sign depicting a grimacing toilet and the admonition "Do not place Papper in the Toilette." However, most of the expected 1.4 million tourists won't know used toilet tissue must be placed in a wastebasket next to the toilet, the newspaper said.

Another problem, the newspaper said, is the impact high-tech tourists could have with cell phones, laptop computers and the air-conditioning pressures of August on the country's overburdened power system.
