Tornados rake Bangladesh

NETROKONA, Bangladesh, April 15 (UPI) -- Forty people have been reported killed and 1,000 injured by tornadoes in two northern districts of Bangladesh, the BBC reported Thursday.

At least 12 villages in the Netrokona and Mymensingh districts were hit Wednesday night by the storms, leaving thousands homeless as their houses were blown away by the strong winds and rains.

Doctors at Netrokona Medical College Hospital and other local hospitals have asked for more doctors and medicines to be sent from Dhaka to help with the steady stream of victims pouring into emergency rooms.
