Teens survive parasail, powerline incident

BRADENTON, Fla., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Two 15-year-old girls narrowly escaped tragedy in the skies over Bradenton, Fla., when their parasail broke, the Tampa Tribune reported Tuesday.

The tether on the parasail broke as Nalaliya Lozko and Stephanie Cote of Springfield, Mass., were 600 feet off the water.

The wind sent them over a restaurant onto power lines, where the sail burst into flames.

The fire burned through the parasail, releasing the girls who fell to the ground.

"I kept yelling down to people to help us, to come save us," Cote said immediately after their release from Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Fla.

They were treated for scrapes, cuts and bruises before they were released.

The Coast Guard and Fish and Wildlife Department are investigating to determine whether any charges should be filed. The Coast Guard said Kirk Hanne, owner of U-Fly Parasailing, tried to leave after the incident, but Coast Guardsmen prevented him.
