Hornets get Alexander for draft pick

WASHINGTON, June 25 -- The Washington Wizards traded guard Courntey Alexander to the New Orleans Hornets on Tuesday for another first-round pick in Wednesday's NBA draft.

Alexander was shipped to the Hornets for the 17th overall selection.

The Wizards already owned the 11th pick and have the 39th and 40th choices.

"Although we have a talented player in Courtney Alexander, we are excited to add another first-round selection," Wizards General Manager Wes Unseld said. "We are confident we will improve our team with four selections in this deep and talented draft."

Alexander was acquired from the Dallas Mavericks in February 2001 in a multi-player deal that sent Juwan Howard to Texas.

The 6-5 Alexander averaged 9.8 points in 56 games last season and 11.9 points in 84 career games with the Wizards. pick in Wednesday's draft.
