GREENVILLE, N.C., Oct. 20 -- Leonard Henry surpassed the 100-yard mark for the sixth straight game Saturday as East Carolina remained undefeated in Conference USA play with a 32-11 victory over Memphis.
Henry, who came into the contest averaging a Division I-A-leading 8.9 yards per carry, ran for 136 yards on 32 carries.
He needs just 57 yards to reach 1,000 for the season.
East Carolina (4-3, 3-0 C-USA) also relied on stingy defense that shut out Memphis in the first half and did not allow a touchdown until the contest was out of reach.
The Pirates jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter om David Garrard's one-yard touchdown run and the first of Kevin Miller's four field goals.
Miller added two field goals in the second period to give East Carolina a 16-0 halftime margin.
After the teams traded field goals in the third quarter, Garrard tossed a 45-yard touchdown pass to Richard Alston, then scored on a four-yard run to make it 32-3.
Memphis' Danny Wimprine tossed a meaningless 12-yard touchdown strike to Bunkie Perkins with three minutes left in the contest.
Garrard completed 20 of 25 passes for 268 yards.
Memphis (4-3, 2-2) was held to 231 total yards, including just 72 on the ground. Wimprine completed 16 of 27 for 159 yards.
East Carolina has won six of the last seven against Memphis and leads the all-time series, 8-3. |end|
