The 29-year-old McCarty had 12 goals, 10 assists and 123 penalty minutes in 72 games last season, his eighth in the NHL -- all with Detroit.

Krupp, 36, has not played since 1998-99, missing more than two seasons with a back injury. This latest injury to his right rotator cuff occurred on Sept. 28 in a preseason game against Chicago. According to the Detroit Free Press, he is expected to miss up to two weeks.

In another move, the Red Wings signed right wing Ladislav Kohn to a one-year contract and assigned him to Cincinnati of the American Hockey League. The deal includes options that allow the 26-year-old Czech to play in Europe this season.

Last season, Kohn had seven goals and seven assists in 77 games with the Atlanta Thrashers.
