Kansas City 8, Texas 3

ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 8 -- Rookie Chris George tossed 6 1/3 effective innings and the Kansas City Royals scored five runs over the first three innings Saturday night en route to an 8-3 victory over the Texas Rangers.

George (3-5), who lost to Texas six days ago, allowed a two-run homer to Alex Rodriguez in the first inning but settled down thereafter.

The 21-year-old lefthander allowed three runs and eight hits in his first career road victory.

George was lifted after allowing a home run to Bill Hasselman with one out in the seventh.

Cory Bailey retired just one batter before Jason Grimsley pitched 1 1/3 hitless innings. Rookie Brad Voyles made his major league debut in the ninth, allowing only a walk.

Texas starter Darren Oliver (11-9) allowed six runs and 11 hits in five innings. The veteran lefthander lost for the first time since Aug. 17.

Mike Sweeney and Luis Alicea added home runs for the Royals, who who have scored at least eight runs each of their four wins over the Rangers.
