Rangers sign free agent P.J. Stock

NEW YORK, Aug. 23 -- Three days after getting bigger with the acquisition of Eric Lindros, the New York Rangers Thursday signed pesky left wing P.J. Stock.

The 5-10 Stock played for the Rangers from 1997-2000 before signing with the Montreal Canadiens as a free agent.

He split last season between the Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers and had two goals, five assists and 110 penalty minutes in 51 games.

Stock, 26, is a fearless checker who collected 290 penalty minutes in 64 games with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack during the 1999-00 season. He added a goal and 11 assists in 23 playoff contests as the Wolf Pack captured the Calder Cup championship.

Stock signed with New York as a free agent in November 1997 and made his NHL debut later that season. After totaling two goals, three assists and 114 penalty minutes in 38 games, he played just 16 games over the next two seasons and was not re-signed.
