Jackson spent the 2000-01 season with the New Jersey Nets while Smith has not been in the NBA since 1999.

The flurry of signings continue for San Antonio, which signed swingman Bruce Bowen on Tuesday and forwards Danny Ferry and Mark Bryant on Wednesday.

Jackson, 23, averaged 8.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 77 games for the Nets. The 6-8 forward started 40 games and played in the Rookie Challenge at All-Star Weekend but often was a target of coach Byron Scott for uninspired play.

A 1997 second-round pick of Phoenix who did not play college ball, Jackson was born in Houston.

Smith, 25, spent last season in Italy, averaging 24.2 points in 33 games for Snaidero Udine. He has not played in the NBA since the lockout-shortened season, which he spent with the Los Angeles Clippers.

A 1997 first-round pick of Miami, Smith was dealt before the end of his rookie season. The native of Fort Worth was the 2000 CBA Newcomer of the Year.
