Dwyer re-signs with Lightning

TAMPA, Fla., July 26 -- The Tampa Bay Lightning Thursday re-signed right wing Gordie Dwyer. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

In 28 games with the Lightning last season, Dwyer registered one assist and 96 penalty minutes.

He had two goals and three assists in 24 contests for the Detroit Vipers of the International Hockey League.

"Gordie has steadily improved his game to the point that he's now a very functional part of our hockey team," said Tampa Bay General Manager Rick Dudley. "He provides the solid forecheck we look for and he loves to hit. He's also quite adept at the pugilistic side of the game."

Dwyer was acquired from Montreal in November 1999 and has played in 52 career NHL games, totaling 231 penalty minutes.
