Augmon signs with Hornets

CHARLOTTE, July 25 -- The Charlotte Hornets signed their second free agent in as many days Wednesday, inking veteran swingman Stacey Augmon.

The signing of Augmon, who turns 33 next week, came one day after the Hornets signed guard Bryce Drew, another move that should fortify their bench.

Terms were not disclosed. As a 10-year veteran, Augmon must receive at least $1 million per season. He spent his first five seasons with the Atlanta Hawks and the last five with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Known for his ability to defend multiple positions, the 6-8 Augmon averaged 4.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in 66 games last season. He is expected to back up both the shooting guard and small forward slots for the Hornets.

"Stacey will add to our club, especially on the defensive end of the floor," Hornets coach Paul Silas said. "He brings quite a bit of athleticism and playoff experience to our bench."
