Thrashers sign three free agents

ATLANTA, July 16 -- The Atlanta Thrashers Monday landed three unrestricted free agents, agreeing to terms with centers Tony Hrkac and Bob Corkum and defenseman Todd Reirden.

"Tony and Bob are experienced centers who excel on faceoffs," said Thrashers General Manager Don Waddell. "Tony adds an offensive aspect to our club, Bob is one of the stronger penalty killers in the league and Todd adds skill and depth to our existing defensive core."

Hrkac, 35, had 13 goals and 25 assists for 38 points in 80 games last season. He led the Ducks by winning 51 percent of his faceoffs.

Hrkac won a Stanley Cup with the Dallas Stars in 1999 and has 105 goals, 196 assists and 147 penalty minutes in 598 career games with St. Louis, Quebec, San Jose, Chicago, Dallas, Edmonton, the New York Islanders and Anaheim.

Corkum, 33, began last season in Los Angeles before being traded to New Jersey at the March deadline. He had a goal and three assists in 17 regular season games for the Devils and added a goal and two assists in 12 playoff contests.

Corkum, who also has played for Buffalo, Anaheim, Philadelphia and Phoenix, has 94 goals, 98 assists and 261 penalty minutes in 645 games.

The 30-year-old Reirden was limited to 38 games with St. Louis last season because of injury. He had two goals and six assists. In the 1999-2000 campaign, he had four goals and 21 assists in 56 games for the Blues.
