Red Wings sign free agent Robitaille

DETROIT, July 2 -- The Detroit Red Wings, a veteran-dominated team, added another one on Monday when they agreed to terms with left wing Luc Robitaille on a two-year contract with a club option for the 2003-2004 season.

Robitaille had 37 goals and 51 assists in 82 games with the Los Angeles Kings last season.

He recorded four goals and three assists in 13 playoff games. The Kings defeated the Red Wings in six games before losing in seven in the Western Conference semifinals to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche.

Robitaille, 35, has totaled 590 goals and 648 assists in 1,124 games over 15 seasons. He has 53 goals and 64 assists in 132 playoff games.

Detroit added superstar goaltender Dominik Hasek in a trade with the Buffalo Sabres over the weekend and already boast proven forwards Brendan Shanahan, Steve Yzerman and Sergei Fedorov.
