Police said the driver may have been speeding, and the injured were taken to the hospital.

The former commander of the Rukwa Region police, Lameck Kibacho confirmed the accident. He said the Nissan truck overturned on Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. local time as it was traveling from an auction in Usovia village, Mpanda District, in Rukwa region.

More than 30 people were killed in southwestern Tanzania earlier this year when a truck in which they were traveling rammed into a van while trying to avoid a cow that was standing in the middle of the road.

In May 1998, 72 people drowned when a bus was swept into a river in the northern Tanga region while trying to cross a bridge.
