Buffalo's season ended Thursday night when it lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins, 3-2, in the seventh game of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

The loss ended Gilmour's quest for a second Stanley Cup. He won hockey's ultimate prize in 1989 as a member of the Calgary Flames.

The well-traveled Gilmour completed his second full season with the Sabres after being acquired in a March 1999 trade with the Chicago Blackhawks. In 71 games, he had seven goals and 31 assists. Gilmour ended his career with 429 goals and 914 assists, good for 11th on the all-time list, and 1,343 points in 1,342 games.

The Kingston, Ontario native also played for Toronto, New Jersey and St. Louis. He recorded career-highs of 95 assists and 127 points in 1992-93, when he led the Maple Leafs to within a game of the Stanley Cup Finals. He has 56 goals and 121 assists in 177 postseason games.
