Sacramento 89, Phoenix 82

PHOENIX, May 2 -- Peja Stojakovic scored a playoff career-high 37 points Wednesday night as the Sacramento Kings erased a 19-point deficit to stun the Phoenix Suns, 89-82, and capture their first playoff series in 20 years.

Sacramento eliminated Phoenix in four games in their Western Conference quarterfinal series and will now take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the semifinals beginning Sunday.

Sacramento has made a habit of coming back against Phoenix. The Kings rallied from a 17-point deficit in Game 3 on Sunday and trailed by 28 points in a victory here March 7.

The last time the Kings won a playoff series was in 1981, when the franchise was in Kansas City.

Phoenix used a 16-1 run, including five points from Jason Kidd and Tony Delk, to close the first quarter with a 29-14 lead. A basket by Tony Delk gave the Suns a 34-15 lead with 8:39 left before halftime.

Stojakovic had four points as the Kings scored six straight to trail 43-32, with 2:44 left. They went into the intermission trailing, 47-36.

After Rodney Rogers made one of two free throws for a 68-63 lead with 8:49 to play, Sacramento finally took control. Stojakovic had a three-pointer for a 68-68 tie with eight minutes left and added a basket to cap a 11-0 run for a 74-68 lead.

Cliff Robinson made a pair of free throws with 1:37 to go to draw Phoenix within 80-78. But Scot Pollard made a fadeaway over Rogers and Doug Christie stole a pass from Jason Kidd and converted a fast-break layup for an 84-78 lead with 62 seconds to go.

Stojakovic made all 14 of his free throws to make up for Chris Webber's early struggles. Webber missed his first 11 shots and was just seven of 27 from the field, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

It was Webber's first playoff series triumph in five tries.

Robinson scored 24 points and Shawn Marion added 14 for Phoenix, which dropped its final two games at America West Arena after closing the regular season with nine straight home wins. Kidd had 13 points and 14 assists despite being hampered by a bruised hip.
