BUFFALO, N.Y., March 28 -- After guiding his team to only the sixth 20-win season in school history, Canisius men's hoops coach Mike MacDonald has agreed to a multi-year contract that will keep him at the school through the 2005-06 season.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Canisius went 20-11 this season, which ended with a loss Iona in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship game. Two years, the Golden Griffins were just 10-20.
"I feel very loyal to Canisius and Canisius has been very loyal to me," said MacDonald. "The commitment they have made to me makes me very honored to be the coach here. I'm excited about the possibilities of the future of the program."
MacDonald is 58-57 in four seasons at the school and ranks seventh all-time on the school's victory list. He also spent nine seasons as an assistant at Canisius and was on the staff when it won the 1996 MAAC title.
"Mike is a very special person in the department and we are thrilled that he will continue to lead our basketball program in the upcoming years," said Canisius Athletic Director Timothy Dillon.
