Kings get Kelly from Devils

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 -- The Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils completed their second trade in less than a week Tuesday night, with center Steve Kelly heading to the West Coast for future considerations.

The 24-year-old Kelly had requested a trade after the Devils bypassed him and recalled a handful of minor leaguers following injuries to several of their key forwards.

He was a healthy scratch in 38 of the last 44 games and has just two goals and two assists in 24 games this season. Acquired from Tampa Bay on Oct. 15, 1999, he appeared in just one regular-season game for New Jersey last season but played in 10 games in the Devils' run to the Stanley Cup championship.

In 110 NHL games with Edmonton, Tampa Bay and New Jersey, the 6-2, 205-pound Kelly has six goals and eight assists.

On Friday, the Kings shipped veteran center Bob Corkum to the Devils for future considerations.

Also Tuesday, Los Angeles placed 31-year-old defenseman Mathieu Schneider on injured reserve with a strained right groin. Schneider missed last Saturday's 3-1 victory over Columbus and did not accompany the team on a two-game road trip that began with Tuesday's 2-1 victory at Nashville.
