Corkum traded from Kings to Devils

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23 -- The New Jersey Devils, beset by injuries to several key forwards, acquired veteran center Bob Corkum from the Los Angeles Kings Friday night for future considerations.

Corkum, 33, is a checking specialist who has four goals and six assists in 58 games this season.

The Kings assigned him to Lowell on Feb. 21, although he did not appear in any games in the American Hockey League.

The 6-2, 225-pound Massachusetts native was a 1986 third-round draft pick of the Buffalo Sabres. He also has played for Anaheim, Philadelphia and Phoenix, totaling 91 goals and 97 assists in 627 NHL games.

The defending Stanley Cup champions are mired in their worst slump of the season, with just one win in the last nine games (1-4-3-1). They were beaten by Carolina, 3-2,on Friday night without centers Sergei Brylin (knee), Jason Arnott (back) and Scott Gomez (back) and right wing Alexander Mogilny (abdomen).
