Last season, he accumulated a team-leading 122 penalty minutes in just 40 games last season and had two assists. The 6-4, 225-pounder was acquired by Calgary in February 1999 in the six-player deal in which Colorado obtained Theo Fleury.

A first-round pick of the Quebec-Colorado franchise in 1991, Belak has played in 107 career NHL games with the Avalanche and Flames, compiling 327 minutes in penalties and one goal and four assists.
