CALGARY, Alberta, Feb. 16 -- Ron Sutter, a veteran of 17 NHL seasons, signed Friday with the Calgary Flames, who are looking for experience as they battle for a postseason playoff spot. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Flames are the seventh NHL team for Sutter since he was a first-round draft choice of the Philadelphia Flyers in 1982.

One of six brothers to play in the NHL, Ron Sutter has appeared in 104 playoff games while collecting 40 points and 193 penalty minutes. He went to the Stanley Cup Finals with Philadelphia in 1986 and '87.

"Ron's experience, maturity and competitive spirit are important qualities required for a winning team," said Flames General Manager Craig Button. "We are happy to enhance these qualities on our team with the addition of Ron Sutter."

The Flames are currently 20-22-11-4 for 55 points in the Northwest Division. They are in 11th place in the Western Conference, seven points behind eighth place Edmonton for the final playoff spot.
