RESTON, Va., Feb. 13 -- The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 6.6 earthquake centered 15 miles southeast of San Salvador shook El Salvador Tuesday morning.

A spokeswoman said there were early reports of damage and injuries from the 9:22 a.m. EST quake.

A USGS spokesman said this is a new earthquake, not an aftershock of January's temblor. The earthquake occurred on a different fault and a different plate, he said.
