EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Dec. 31 -- Darius Lane scored 26 points and freshman Eddie Griffin added 21 to lead the 12th-ranked Seton Hall Pirates to an 84-73 victory Sunday over Central Connecticut State, the defending Northeast Conference champions.
The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed due to the snowstorm which blanketed the New York-New Jersey area.
Lane scored 17 of his 26 points in the first half when Seton Hall (9-2) built a 41-32 halftime lead. The Pirates increased the lead to as many as 17 points, 66-49 with 9 1/2 minutes left. A 19-10 run helped Central Connecticut State (5-5) pull within 76-68, but it got no closer.
Corsley Edwards led the Blue Devils with 30 points.
Seton Hall played without starting center Samuel Dalembert, who departed for Haiti to attend the funeral of his paternal grandmother, who passed away last week. His return has yet to be determined.
The Pirates, who improved to 6-1 at the Continental Airlines Arena, will begin Big East play at home against Providence on January 3.
Central Connecticut State had not played since blowing a 20-point lead in a 63-56 overtime loss at Air Force on December 12.
