OKLAHOMA CITY, Dec. 30 -- Nolan Johnson scored 21 points Saturday night, including two free throws with 1:20 left in overtime that gave 17th-ranked Oklahoma a 79-78 victory over Southern Methodist in the championship game of the All-College Tournament.
The Sooners (11-1) rallied from a 10-point deficit and won this event for the 17th time.
The tournament is the oldest in the nation, surpassing both the NCAA Tournament and NIT.
Johnson sent the game to overtime by knocking down a bank shot with six seconds left, forging a 72-72 tie.
SMU (9-3) had chances to win at the end of regulation and the extra period. Jeryl Sasser missed a three-pointer to end the second half, Quinton Ross missed another with two seconds left in overtime and DeWayne Floyd was off on a follow shot at the final buzzer.
Damon Hancock scored 18 points to lead the Mustangs, who have lost two of their last three after an 8-1 start. Two of SMU's losses have been to ranked teams.NEWLN:
