Weekly player honors for Kolzig

NEW YORK, Dec. 18 -- Olaf Kolzig of the Washington Capitals Monday became the third straight goaltender to be named NHL Player of the Week.

Kolzig won all three of his starts during the period ending Sunday, Dec. 17, with a 1.01 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage to help the Capitals move into first place in the Southeast Division.

Kolzig, last season's Vezina Trophy winner, defeated the New York Islanders and Minnesota before stopping 19 shots in a 4-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers for his 19th career shutout.

The Capitals have won seven of their last eight games, all with Kolzig in goal.

Goalies Marc Denis of Columbus and Patrick Lalime of Ottawa won the award the last two weeks. Of the 10 weekly awards thus far, five have gone to goaltenders.
