Federov earns weekly NHL honor

NEW YORK, Nov. 27 -- Detroit Red Wings center Sergei Fedorov, who went on a scoring binge with 10 points in four games, Monday was named NHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 26.

Fedorov, who had seven goals and three assists, opened the week with two assists in a 6-3 victory over the Nashville Predators on Monday.

Two days later, he recorded his second career hat trick in a 5-4 loss to the Boston Bruins.

In wins over the Vancouver Canucks and New York Islanders, Fedorov combined for four goals and one assist.

Playing in his 11th season, the 30-year-old Fedorov leads the Red Wings with 13 goals and 29 points. He ranks seventh in the league in scoring and is ninth in goals.

Also considered for the award were Federov's Detroit teammate, Nicklas Lidstrom, Los Angeles right wing Ziggy Palffy and goaltender Martin Brodeur of New Jersey.
