Sabres re-sign Biron

BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 7 -- Goaltender Martin Biron, the heir apparent to Dominik Hasek, ended his holdout Tuesday night and re-signed with the Buffalo Sabres. Terms were not disclosed.

The Sabres assigned Biron to Rochester of the American Hockey League but announced he would rejoin them on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old Biron flourished as Buffalo's starter after Hasek suffered a groin injury early last season, going 19-18-2 with a 2.42 goals-against average and .909 save percentage. His five shutouts are the seventh-highest total among rookies in NHL history.

With Biron on the sidelines, Hasek has seen action in all but one game this season, with rookie Mika Noronen handling the backup chores.

Hasek, a five-time Vezina Trophy winner, is 4-5-1 with a 2.72 GAA. Noronen is 2-0-0 with a 2.78 GAA.
