Capitals sign Corey Hirsch

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 -- The Washington Capitals Wednesday signed goaltender Corey Hirsch to a one-year contract and loaned him to the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Hirsch, 28, is 33-44-14 with a 3.15 goals-against average in 105 NHL games with the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks. He signed with Nashville in August 1999 and was traded to Anaheim in March but never played for either team.

Last season, Hirsch went 18-13-2 with a 2.68 GAA and three shutouts in 36 games for Milwaukee and Utah of the International Hockey League.

He has not played in the NHL since a 5-1 loss to Anaheim with Vancouver on Feb. 20, 1998.
