Capitals sign Richer to 1-year deal

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 -- The Washington Capitals Friday signed free agent right wing Stephane Richer to a one-year contract.

Richer, 34, spent the last two seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning before being traded to the St. Louis Blues on January 13. He tallied 15 goals and 22 assists in 56 games overall and added a goal for the Blues in the playoffs.

A 15-year veteran, Richer was a member of Stanley Cup-winning teams at Montreal in 1986 and New Jersey in 1995. The Quebec native is a two-time 50-goal scorer and has scored at least 20 goals in 12 seasons. Overall, he has 407 goals and 384 assists in 986 career NHL games.
