Canadian sign Campbell to 1-year deal

MONTREAL, Aug. 22 -- The Montreal Canadiens Tuesday signed free agent right wing Jim Campbell to a one-year contract.

Campbell, 27, played the last four seasons with the St. Louis Blues and had a career high 23 goals in 1996-97. However, he spent most of 1999-2000 with the Blues' affiliate in Worcester and led the AHL team with 31 goals and 34 assists.

Campbell has 51 goals and 63 assists in 217 NHL games with Anaheim and St. Louis.
