Flames sign Weimer, Botterill

CALGARY, Aug. 3 -- Center Jason Wiemer Thursday accepted a qualifying offer from the Calgary Flames while left wing Jason Botterill agreed to remain with the team.

Both were Group II restricted free agents.

Wiemer, 24, accepted the club's offer after totaling 11 goals, 11 assists and 120 penalty minutes in 64 games last season. He has played 386 NHL games for Calgary and Tampa Bay, recording 50 goals and 52 assists.

Botterill, 24, has played for three teams in as many seasons. Acquired last season from Atlanta, Botterill played only two games for the Flames. He has one goal and four assists in 48 games, also playing for Dallas.

Calgary also announced that Finnish forward Miiko Elomo accepted a qualifying offer. A 1995 first-round pick of Washington, Elomo was acquired on June 27. He has never played in the NHL but had 21 goals in 59 games for Portland of the AHL last season.
