Cavs obtain Harpring for DeClercq

CLEVELAND, Aug. 3 -- The Cleveland Cavaliers Thursday acquired forward Matt Harpring from the Orlando Magic for center Andrew DeClercq.

Both teams traded from depth.

The trade came as the Magic acquired Grant Hill and Tracy McGrady, both of whom play small forward. They also drafted forward Mike Miller in June. The Cavaliers acquired rookie center Chris Mihm in a draft-day trade with the Chicago Bulls.

A 1998 first-round pick of the Magic, the 6-7 Harpring was limited to just four games last season by an injured tendon in his left ankle. He averaged 8.2 points and 4.3 rebounds in all 50 games of the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season.

"We are delighted Matt Harpring is joining the Cavaliers," said general manager Jim Paxson. "Matt is known for his hustle and tenacity and adds athleticism and flexibility to our roster."

The 6-10 DeClercq averaged 6.6 points and 5.4 rebounds in 82 games last season, his fifth in the NBA. He began his career with Golden State and also played for Boston.
