Stars sign two players

DALLAS, July 26 -- Defenseman Brad Lukowich and goaltender Marty Turco, two players who figure to see more ice time next season, agreed to one-year contracts Wednesday with the Dallas Stars.

Lukowich's deal is worth $385,000 while terms for Turco's pact were not disclosed.

Lukowich, 23, was re-acquired from the Minnesota Wild on June 25, less than two weeks after Dallas traded him to the expansion team with goalie Manny Fernandez for a pair of draft picks.

The 6-1, 200-pound defenseman had three goals and an assist with a minus-14 rating in 60 games last season. He did not appear in the playoffs for the Stars, but figures to see more playing time next season following the free-agent defection of veteran Sylvain Cote.

Turco will get a shot to replace Fernandez as the backup to Ed Belfour. The 24-year-old spent last season with Michigan of the IHL, going 21-24-7 with a 2.46 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.

The Stars also signed free agent Jeff Tory, a 27-year-old defenseman who had 17 goals and 41 assists in 76 games last season with Philadelphia of the AHL.
