Lowry, 35, was hampered by injuries last season and had just one goal and four assists in 32 games with the San Jose Sharks. However, he played in all 12 of San Jose's playoff games and helped the team knock off the top-seeded St. Louis Blues in the first round of the Western Conference.

Lowry is best known for leading the Florida Panthers in playoff scoring with 10 goals and seven assists during their stunning run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1996. The Panthers traded the 6-1, 200-pounder to the Sharks in November 1997 in a deal for Viktor Kozlov.

The sixth-round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in 1983 played parts of three seasons with the Canucks before being traded to St. Louis. He set career-bests in back-to-back seasons with the Blues, scoring 19 goals in 1989-90 and 1990-91.
