The 32-year-old Van Allen had spent the last four seasons with the Ottawa Senators. He recorded nine goals and 19 assists in 75 games last season and led the Senators with a plus-minus rating of plus-20.

Van Allen started his career with the Edmonton Oilers in 1990 and also spent three seasons with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim before being acquired by the Senators in 1996. He has career totals of 55 goals and 126 assists for 181 points.

Tabaracci, 31, spent time with the expansion Atlanta Thrashers and Colorado Avalanche last season, but mostly played in the International Hockey League. He lost his only game with Atlanta and went 1-0-0 in two games with Colorado.

Overall, Tabaracci has a career record of 93-125-30 with a 2.99 goals-against average and also has played for Pittsburgh, Winnipeg, Washington, Calgary and Tampa Bay.

Dallas won the Stanley Cup in 1999, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games in this year's Cup Finals.
